Neil Young’s Collaboration With Rapper Scheduled for Release
Neil Young has spent decades conditioning his fans to expect the unexpected, so when word leaked late last year that he'd been in the studio with rapper D.R.A.M., it was just one more creative left turn in a career filled with them. Next month, the results of that collaboration will finally make their way to record stores.
Pitchfork reports that the song the duo worked on together, titled "Campfire," is set for release as part of the soundtrack for the upcoming Netflix sci-fi film Bright. Starring Will Smith as a police detective partnered with an orc, the movie is due for a Dec. 22 release — and nine days earlier, the soundtrack is scheduled to arrive, featuring contributions from a wide array of artists across the musical spectrum.
"Campfire" isn't the only piece of new music Young's putting out before the end of the year. As previously reported, he's also lined up a Dec. 1 release for The Visitor, a new full-length album that sees him reuniting with Promise of the Real. Young has already released "Already Great," the first single and lead-off track from the new set.
All in all, 2017 has been a busy year on the new-release front for the ever-prolific Young; in September, he put out Hitchhiker, a collection of acoustic studio performances originally captured during a one-day session in the summer of 1976. He'll also be part of the festivities for Record Store Day Black Friday this year, offering a double-LP vinyl reissue of his Harvest Moon LP in honor of the album's 25th anniversary.
