Peter Robbins was once the voice of Charlie Brown. Now the 59 year-old California man is facing nearly five years in a state prison. Robbins pleaded for leniency as he appeared before a judge in San Diego on Tuesday. The former voice actor is accused of making criminal threats against a police sheriff.

"I want justice to be served, but I'm mentally ill. To stick me three years into a state prison is not benefitting the justice system. I feel I'm entitled to at least a second chance."

His demeanor was calm, marking a stark contrast from his last court appearance in July where he could be seen ranting and screaming. He was later ordered to undergo a mental competency evaluation.

NBC News San Diego reports that Robbins confessed Tuesday to writing menacing letters to a San Diego County sheriff and offering to pay $50,000 to have him killed. Robbins also pleaded guilty that day to threatening the manager of a mobile home park where he used to live.

Robbins has had his share of troubles over the years.

The NY Daily News says that he pleaded guilty in 2013 to threatening his girlfriend and to stalking a doctor who performed a breast-enhancement surgery on her. He was was sentenced to five years' probation, but then he recently got arrested again for several probation violations, including cutting off his GPS bracelet, failing to complete domestic violence courses and drinking alcohol.
