Reported Cause of Death Released for Allman Brothers Band Drummer Butch Trucks
Yesterday (Jan. 25), we unfortunately reported that Allman Brothers Band drummer Butch Trucks had died at the age of 69 on Tuesday (Jan. 24). No cause of death was available at press time, but now more details have surfaced, revealing the legend apparently committed suicide.
The Daily Mail reports that an unidentified woman called 911 at 6:02 PM under a hysteric state and the dispatched had noted that Trucks' wife witnessed him pulling the trigger. When the police arrived at West Palm Beach home in Florida, the drummer was still breathing, but passed shortly after their arrival.
Trucks was believed to be enduring financial struggles according the the Palm Beach County court records. The legend had to pay off an $800,000 mortgage in 2011, which forced him to sell his Palm Beach home for $2 million, about half of its actual projected worth at the time. Two liens were filed against Trucks' condo last year by the IRS as he owed additional taxes from 2013 and 2014, amounting to upwards of $540,000.
A Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member, Trucks received the honor for his iconic work with the Allman Brothers and was inducted alongside Gregg and Duane Allman, Dickey Betts, Berry Oakley and Jaimoe Johanson in 1995.
