Did you catch a glimpse of that huge blimp floating over the Hudson Valley earlier this week? What was that all about!?

Random Blimp Flies Over The Hudson Valley

On Tuesday, April 23rd, 2024 several Hudson Valley residents noticed a rather large object floating through the sky.

It was a beautiful April afternoon, so many residents found themselves outside enjoying the weather when they looked up and saw a large blimp. It's not every day you see one flying across the region, so needless to say it was a hot topic of conversation on social media.

I was outside walking my dog at around 3:47 pm and took the above photo of the blimp making its way through the Beacon/Fishkill area.

Why Was The Mysterious Blimp in the Hudson Valley?

As mentioned above, we don't see blimps in the Hudson Valley every day. So what in the world was it doing here?

I did a little digging and asked on my Facebook page if anyone could read what was on the side of the blimp because every blimp is promoting something right? In doing so I learned thanks to the Flight Tracker app, the blimp belonged to Dick's Sporting Goods.

Interesting.

What kind of promotion was Dick's doing? Well according to PR Newswire, it's for an "Iconic Blimp Marking Campaign for Dick's House of Sport." Back in March of this year, the blimp kicked off a 4-month journey across the East Coast.

The "colossal" DICK'S House of Sport blimp started its journey in Smyrna, Tennesse, and is scheduled to fly through South CarolinaNorth CarolinaVirginiaNew YorkPennsylvaniaMassachusetts, and according to the press release more East Coast spots."

The press release explains that the blimp will be seen flying over "an eclectic array of concerts and sports spectaculars." So far it's been seen at the Boston Marathon and opening day for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
