Popular Poughkeepsie Pizzeria Closes

Back in 2019 a popular pizzeria in the Town of Poughkeepsie made the announcement that they would be closing up shop.

Umberto's of Mamma Marisa on Route 9 in Poughkeepsie closed their doors after over 40 years in business.

At the time, owner Carmine Annunziata shared that they would no longer offer take out and dine-in options.  Annunziata said they would be focusing more on catering.

Since then, the area where Umberto's used to be is now being constructed into a new shopping center with a dispensary scheduled to open in the near future.

Things have been pretty quiet on the Umberto's front...until now.

Family Behind Umberto's of Mamma Marisa Announces New Food Truck

On July 28th, 2026, Carmine Annunziata took to social media to make a pretty big announcement.

In the statement Annunziata wrote "For over 40 years, my family had the privilege of serving the Poughkeepsie community through Umberto's."

The statement goes on to thank all of their supports over the year, adding "The restaurant may be gone, but my passion for cooking never left."

With that Annunziata introduced "the next chapter..." the opening of Carmine's Wood Fired Pizza Truck."

It looks like Carmine's Wood Fired Pizza Truck will be available for weddings, birthdays, graduation parties, backyard parties, corporate events and more. Carmine writes "my goal is the same as it's always been—to bring people together over great food."

The pizza's will be handcrafted and cooked in an authentic wood-fire oven.

Thankfully, there's no shortage of pizza spots in the Hudson Valley. Take a look at some of the most popular (and top rated, at least by Dave Portnoy) pizza spots in the region below:
