Have you seen the new structure/sign that showed up in the middle of a traffic circle in Poughkeepsie, New York?

If you commute to and from work/school/daycare every day in the Hudson Valley and find yourself taking the same route regularly have you ever noticed that when something changes along that commute it usually takes a minute for it to register in your brain? I've mentioned a few times that I drive the same roads to work every day and have done it at the same time of day, Monday through Friday, for 12+ years so when something changes along that route it catches me off guard.

What the Heck is This New Sign in Poughkeepsie, New York?

That's exactly what I said to myself after I drove around this roundabout in the town of Poughkeepsie near Creek Road and Salt Point Turnpike early this week...

Let me explain...It was early Tuesday morning and as I approached the roundabout I noticed that there was something new in the middle of it. As I started to turn into the circle I decided I needed to go around again to try and see what the heck it was. After going around a few times...LOL...I discovered that it was some sort of new sign showing off the name Poughkeepsie. It was still dark outside so I couldn't get a good picture of it so I went back later in the day and snapped a few pictures...

Poughkeespie's Newest Sign/Cage

I love new things but this looks like some sort of cage, right? It looks like it could be something that houses a tiger or some wild animal...LOL! I've tried to find out more information about the sign but can't find anything!! Does it have a special meaning? Is it made from special metal? Did an artist design it? I'm not sure who might be able to answer any of my questions so if you know someone who has any information regarding Poughkeepsie's newest structure let me know by emailing me at CJ@HUDSONVALLEYCOUNTRY.COM. I could use your information in a future article.
