A big-name luxury retailer is preparing to close more stores across the country, and two locations in New York are on the list.

The company behind Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus says it plans to shut down 15 stores nationwide as part of a major restructuring effort after filing for bankruptcy earlier this year.

Saks Global Files for Bankruptcy

Back in January, Saks Global, the parent company of Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus, filed for bankruptcy protection in Texas. The filing was part of a plan to reorganize the company and restructure what it called unsustainable debt.

As part of that process, the company also warned that some underperforming stores could close while it focuses on stores with stronger sales and has the most long-term growth potential.

Luxury Department Stores Closing Across the Country

In a recent press release, Saks Global confirmed it plans to close 15 additional stores, including 12 Saks Fifth Avenue locations and three Neiman Marcus stores across 13 states.

The latest round of closures comes just a month after the company announced plans to shut down nine other stores across the country, including eight Saks Fifth Avenue locations and one Neiman Marcus.

“This strategic optimization is part of our ongoing transformation and rooted in our long-term view of our business,” said CEO Geoffroy van Raemdonck. “Our go-forward store portfolio will comprise the best performing and most desirable locations in markets with the highest concentration of luxury customers.”

The company added that it has largely finished reviewing its store footprint but is still working with landlords as it makes final decisions about any additional closures.

Two New York Stores on the Closure List

According to USA TODAY, one of the Saks Fifth Avenue stores slated to close is the company’s last remaining Long Island location at the Walt Whitman Shops in Huntington Station.

Another New York store being closed is the Neiman Marcus location in White Plains, located at 2 Maple Avenue.

While an exact closing date hasn’t been confirmed for the White Plains store, some reports suggest it could shut down sometime in May 2026.

Two other Neiman Marcus locations in California and Hawaii are also expected to close.
