Missing Man Reported in Montgomery, NY

The tragic incident began on Thursday, August 6th in Montgomery, NY, when the Town of Montgomery Police Department contacted the New York State Forest Rangers to assist in a search for a 40-year-old resident who had been reported missing by an acquaintance.

According to the Daily Voice, the missing man, who was described as despondent by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, had last communicated with the acquaintance two days before the search began.

That information prompted a large search effort in the area, with multiple agencies working together to try to locate the missing man, including members of the New York State Forest Rangers, Environmental Conservation Police Officers, New York State Police, Orange County Sheriff's deputies, and Montgomery Police.

Search Ends in Tragedy in Orange County, NY

Officials said that search crews spent the morning looking through the wooded areas around the man's property. Unfortunately, the search came to a tragic end just a few hours after it began.

At approximately 12:04 p.m., Forest Rangers located the man deceased in a wooded area about 250 feet south of his property, according to the DEC. Officials did not identify the man but did say that his body was turned over to the Orange County Medical Examiner's Office, which will be responsible for determining the cause and manner of death.

Officials have not released any additional details about what happened or why the man may have entered the wooded area. The circumstances surrounding his death remain under investigation.
