MTA Announces Latest Heritage Fleet Locomotive
Metro North took to social media to announce the 10th addition to their Heritage Fleet.
The 10th heritage locomotive will commemorate the 25th anniversary of 9/11. In the post share online Metro North wrote:
Today, we unveiled our 10th heritage locomotive commemorating the 25th anniversary of 9/11. The engine honors those we lost, the courage of first responders, and all whose lives were forever changed.

When Will The 9/11 Commemorative Metro North Locomotive Be On Display?
The Heritage Fleet locomotives are working train cars, but before they hit the rails they are usually put on display for the public to view.
Metro North explains that the public can see the latest Heritage Fleet locomotive starting on September 11th, 2026 through September 13, 2026 at Grand Central Terminal.
After its stay at Grand Central, it will begin "regular passenger service on the Hudson, Harlem, and New Haven line."
What is The Metro North Heritage Fleet?
The 9.11 is the 10th Metro North locomotive to be used in the Heritage Fleet.
So what exactly is the Metro North Heritage Fleet? According to the MTA website, the Heritage Fleet launched back in 2023 to celebrate Metro North's 40th anniversary.
The Heritage Fleet is made up of a collection of restored "GE P32AC-DM dual-mode locomotives wrapped in classic vinyl liveries that honor the region's rail history."
Locomotives used for the fleet run in regularly daily service on the Hudson, Harlem and New Haven MTA lines.
