Summer Fun at Popular Winter Destination Suspended for Now
Winter and Ski Season may be behind us but that doesn't mean that the Hudson Valley and Catskill ski slopes aren't preparing for next winter. Most of the improvements at slopes get done this time of year.
Early this month I told you about Holiday Mountain Ski & Fun Park digging up the mountain in Sullivan County to put in a new snow-making system and possibly down the road a new chair lift. Now I see that HUnter Mountain has some construction going on as well to get ready for the next ski season.
Hunter Mountain Hiking Trails Closed Down for the Summer
Hunter Mountain posted on social media that due to upgrades being made on two Epic Chair Lifts which will debut next winter, they have suspended hiking at Hunter for the Summer. This will have many people disappointed but for those who like to enjoy the mountain during the summer, there are still things to do.
Things You Can Do at Hunter Mountain in the Summer
The construction plans at Hunter Mountian will not interfere with all of what they offer visitors to the mountain during the summer. They still plan to open the Scenic Skyrides starting June 29th. They will also still have hiking available from the summit to the fire tower. The trails that will be closed are the ones from the base to the summit.
They also want to remind all summer visitors to be sure to respect all on-mountain signage during this time to ensure everyone's safety.
Where to Hike in the Hudson Valley on Your Way to Hunter Mountain
If you are looking for some other places to hike that may be on your way to Hunter, New York you can plan to stop at the Mohonk Preserve in New Paltz. You can plan a linear park hike which includes old Hudson Valley rail beds and the Walkway over the Hudson and don't forget Mount Beacon in Beacon, New York.
