This weekend may finally be rain-free with temperatures being unseasonably warm which after this morning's frost in parts of the Hudson Valley and the Catskills may mean we will be enjoying what some call Indian Summer. I am confident a lot of us will be looking forward to the warm spell.

The folks who probably aren't thinking about warmer weather in the Fall are most likely those who got excited over the weekend with the first sign of winter. Yes, the Catskills reported the first snowfall of soon-to-be Winter 2023/2024.

Belleayre Mountain shared their first snowfall of the season on their social media. I am not sure if it means we will have a good ski season in the Catskills but it does mean that an old September weather folklore might be accurate.

Let's start your week with some great news: the first snowfall of the the season has arrived at Belleayre. Simply a taste of what's to come, but excitement is buzzing around the mountain! (via Bellayre Mountain Facebook)

The Farmer's Almanac Predicted the First Snowfall in Ulster County, New York

The Farmers' Almanac posted the notice above on their Facebook page back on September 6th, 2023. You may recall that week we had strong thunderstorms move through the Hudson Valley which also happened to be the last thunderstorms in September. Fast forward to this past weekend which just happens to be 6 weeks later and we have snow. So that one might not be so much lore as fact.
