A car accident quickly turned into a fully engulfed fire after a car struck a tree in Southeast, New York.

According to the Brewster Fire Department's Facebook page, firefighters were called to battle a car fire that started after a car left the roadway, struck a tree and caught fire early Sunday morning.

Car Burst Into Flames

First responders from Brewster, NY were dispatched to the intersection of Route 22 and Milltown Road in Southeast, NY for a single vehicle car accident with injuries around 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning. Upon arrival, firefighters and EMS were met with a fully engulfed car fire, which apparently started after the vehicle (below) left the roadway, struck a tree and burst into flames outside the Brewster Elks Club on Route 22.

The unidentified driver of the vehicle safely got out of the car before it became fully engulfed in flames. The driver was treated at the scene by Brewster EMS and transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Firefighters battled the car fire and were able to quickly extinguish it before it could spread.

Thankfully firefighters were able to get the fire under control quickly, avoiding any chance of it spreading. A fire like this and the dry conditions we've experienced recently could have made this much worse.

Burn Ban in Effect in New York

The dry conditions and recent brush fires on Long Island have led to New York Gov. Kathy Hochul issuing a burn ban for the lower Hudson Valley, New York City and Long Island. The New York burn ban is regional and includes Long Island, Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester, and Putnam and Rockland counties. It also includes Orange, Dutchess, and Ulster Counties.

What's Included in New York Burn Ban?

The burn ban was issued Sunday, March 9th, and will run until March 16th, and will prohibit the ignition of outdoor fires for purposes of brush and debris disposal, uncontained campfires, and open fires used for cooking, according to Yahoo. This burn ban is different from the annual New York state-wide burn ban which goes into effect on March 16th and lasts until May 14th.
