Violent Attack in New Windsor

The New Windsor Police Department shared the details of a violent attack that took place just before 10:30pm on Wednesday, August 6th, at a residence on Chestnut Street. Police indicate they responded to the residence following a report of a 'physical domestic incident'

Officers located a female with injuries from a violent attack. The female advised that her ex-boyfriend had broken into her home, attacked her, and then fled the scene.

The press release went on to detail that New Windsor EMS transported the female victim to Montefiore-St.Luke's Cornwall Hospital to receive treatment.

New Windsor Detectives Investigate, Arrest 41 Year-Old Highland Mills Man

Following an investigation initiated by New Windsor Detectives, and with the assistance of several surrounding agencies, the suspect was located and a subsequent arrest was made.

Surrounding agencies assisted in canvassing for the male, and he was eventually located and stopped in his vehicle on Interstate 84 by New York State Police Troop K.

The alleged, Bryan Arrao, age 41, of Highland Mills, was arrested and charged with the following:

Attempted Murder 2nd Degree (class B violent felony)
Burglary 1st Degree (class B violent felony)
Strangulation 2nd Degree (class D violent felony)
Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree (class E felony)
Endangering the Welfare of a child (class A misdemeanor)

Arrao was remanded to Orange County Jail after arraignment, and a full investigation continues.

Stephen Bedetti, Town Supervisor, called the incident 'serious and disturbing,' and praised the cooperation between all of the local agencies that stepped in to protect the victim and 'bring the alleged offender into custody.'
