Each week on ‘In Touch’, our locally produced public affairs program, I get to talk with individuals and organizations from all over the Hudson Valley. We focus on non-profit organizations and volunteers who are working hard to help make all of our communities better places to live, work, and raise our families.

This week, Dan Gruner,  representing the Benedictine Health Foundation's Rosemary D. Gruner Memorial Cancer Fund as well as the Gruner family, stopped by our studios to talk about the 14th Annual Bike For Cancer Care to be held Sunday, September 17 at Dietz Stadium in Kingston.

Dan talked about the history of this event, and their goal of helping families and individuals who are fighting cancer by providing them with $500 gift cards to purchase nutritious food at Hannaford Supermarkets and/or fuel at Stewart’s Shops to assist with transportation costs. There are many great, local businesses who continue to support this event and this fund every year.

For the past 14 years, this event has raised the funds to be able to help achieve these goals. Each year, unfortunately, the need increases throughout the Hudson Valley. Last year $152,000 was raised and this year the goal is $160,000. As Dan explains there are 7 events that will take place on September 17. So whether you bike or walk/run, you can help make a difference in someone's life here in the Hudson Valley. Dan has all the details in this week's show.

We hope to see you at this year's Bike for Cancer Care. Here's where you can register to ride or run, and if you would simply like to make a donation, that would be greatly appreciated as well. If you, or someone you know, could use a helping hand, please call (845) 334-3017 or click here. That’s what it’s there for, that’s why people ride, walk, and run every year, and that’s why I am so proud to be a part of this event.
