Hudson Valley Man Dies Cutting Wood
Tragic news as an investigation is underway into the death of a local man who died in a wood cutting accident.
On Monday around 3:30 p.m., deputies and detectives from the Ulster County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a serious wood-cutting accident on Stone Road in the Town of Hurley.
Lewis E. Peck, 40, of Phoenica was operating a wood processing machine that cuts and splits firewood, police say.
According a preliminary investigation, it’s believed that Peck got tangled in the machine which resulted in a fatal injury.
Detectives were assisted at the scene by the West Hurley Fire Department and Mobile Life Support Services.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Peck’s family and friends.
