Blanchard Glaudin, 25, of Spring Valley was charged with murder on Tuesday. Glaudin is accused of entering the Finklestein Library in Spring Valley around 2 p.m. and repeatedly stabbing 52-year-old Sandra Wilson with a large kitchen knife, NBC reports.

Wilson, who has worked at the library for years and recently became a grandmother, was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, CBS reports.

"A security guard, keeping others safe was viciously stabbed at the Finkelstein Memorial Library in Spring Valley, and she later died of her injuries. I am praying for the victim's family in their time of grief. Many in our community visit the Finkelstein Memorial Library, and it's a place I have taken my own children and have always felt safe. I am extremely upset over this act of violence that incited more fear and chaos in our close-knit community," Sen. David Carlucci, D-Rockland County said on Facebook.

According to ABC, Wilson was sitting at her post inside the library's third floor when the suspect attacked her without warning. Glaudin tried to flee but was caught and held by people nearby until authorities arrived.

Witnesses told ABC the murder was "horrific" and Glaudin had a smirk on his face. Workers told NBC Glaudin had been at the library several times. A motive remains unclear.
