Construction will close down the walkway portion of the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge this week.

In a post to their Facebook page, the New York State Bridge Authority has announced the closing of the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge Pedestrian Walkway on Thursday, April 14.

The closing is due to maintenance work and will be dependent on the weather conditions. According to the Bridge Authority the work should only take one day, but those who are planning on using the walkway on Friday should check with officials first at (845) 831-3700.

The Bridge Authority says that the will also post updates on their official Facebook page and Twitter feed throughout the week with the latest information about the closing.

Commuters celebrated in October when it was announced that construction on the Eastbound side of the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge was finally completed. the 94.7 million dollar project actually finished two weeks ahead of schedule. Joseph Ruggiero, the executive director of the New York State Bridge Authority, said at the time, “We are pleased with the success and the positive impact it will have on the region for many years to come.”
