1 Dead After Drugs Laced With Fentanyl Sold in Hudson Valley

Police are warning the public about a deadly batch of drugs that are being sold in the Hudson Valley.

On Friday around 7:45 p.m., members of the Yonkers Police responded to a gas station on Broadway for a report of a man down.

First responders found three people in a van parked at the gas station unconscious and unresponsive. 43-year-old Mauricio Nunez of Yonkers was later pronounced dead, while two others are listed in serious but stable condition, police say.

According to police, the men ingested what's believed to be cocaine laced with fentanyl or a fentanyl derivative.

Authorities are trying to figure out where the deadly drugs came from.

"The Yonkers Police is issuing a Public Safety Announcement to area residents not to consume these substances; any illegal drug including cocaine, heroin, and opioids has the potential to be deadly on their own; cut or laced with fentanyl, the risk factor of overdosing and dying increases exponentially. Fentanyl and fentanyl derivatives, even in the smallest quantities, if consumed will in many cases result in death," The Yonkers Police Department wrote on Facebook.

On Monday, marijuana laced with fentanyl was sold in Sullivan County.
