Wild 4-State Crime Spree Involving Stolen Dog, Tow-Truck Ends in Hudson Valley
Two men were arrested following a manhunt in the Hudson Valley that lasted around 16-hours. The men are accused of stealing a dog, and crashing a stolen tow-truck into two cars.
On Wednesday around 1:30 a.m., State Police responded to a 911 call for a three-car collision at the intersection of Routes 22 and 295 in the Town of Canaan.
A 2011 Ford F550 tow-truck, later determined to be driven by 31-year-old Jonathan Kimball, was traveling north on Route 22 when the tow-truck failed to stop for a red traffic light and hit a 2008 Chevrolet Blazer traveling east on State Route 295, police say.
After, in an alleged attempt to flee, Kimball placed the tow-truck in reverse and hit a parked car.
Kimball and his passenger, 46-year-old Steven P. Nance, then fled, leaving a Pit bull inside the vehicle.
The tow-truck was later determined to be stolen from Pennsylvania, the dog stolen from Alabama, police say.
Nance was found near the accident and arrested for criminal possession of stolen property, a felony.
While investigating, troopers were told that another vehicle, which was stolen near the scene of the accident, was found in Massachusetts. Police allege Kimball stole the car.
Around 12:30 p.m., State Police in New Lebanon received a tip about a suspicious person, who fit the description of Kimball, in Canaan.
Troopers responded to the area with a State Police helicopter and K-9 units from the Columbia County Sheriff's Office and New York State Police.
Approximately five-hours later, Kimball was found walking on Route 22.
Kimball was charged with criminal possession of stolen property and grand larceny, felonies.
Kimball was remanded to jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail and $25,000 bond. Nance in lieu of $10,000 cash bail over $20,000 bond.
Troopers are coordinating with law enforcement authorities in Alabama, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and New York as they investigate the crime spree.
