Police: Impaired Hudson Valley Woman Crashes Stolen Car
After purchasing liquor, a Hudson Valley woman is accused of stealing an idling car and later causing a three-car crash while impaired by drugs.
On Tuesday around 3:10 p.m., members of the Ulster County Sheriff's Office and Town of Rosendale Police responded to a 911 call reporting a stolen vehicle from the Bridge Plaza in Rosendale.
Ten minutes later, a motor vehicle accident was reported at Route 32 and Creek Locks Road in Rosendale.
Arriving officers determined that the stolen vehicle was involved in the three-car crash, police say.
Police allege that 53-year-old Herma Allen of Rosendale drove her car to the liquor store in the Bridge Plaza, purchased liquor, entered another vehicle, a 2013 Jeep Cherokee that was idling unoccupied in the front of the plaza, and drove away.
Allen was arrested at the scene of the accident and is accused of driving the stolen jeep while impaired by drugs. She was charged with grand larceny, a felony, and driving while ability impaired by drugs, a misdemeanor.
Allen was remanded to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 secured bond.
