For many, this weekend is a long holiday weekend with schools and some businesses closing in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. What do you do with an extra day off? Take advantage of one of the four days this year that the National Parks will offer free admission for everyone.

While there are over 400 National Parks throughout the country, we know that mid-January isn't exactly ideal traveling conditions, so where can you go here in the Hudson Valley? Here are a few suggestions.

You and your family can visit the only National Historic Site dedicated to a first lady Eleanor Roosevelt's Val-Kill in Hyde Park or maybe you can head to the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum, also in Hyde Park. Learn about the only president elected to four terms, take a tour of the museum as well as his home.

You can also visit Martin VanBuren's home in Kinderhook, the Vanderbilt Mansion in Hyde Park, learn about the artistry of Thomas Cole in Catskill and his home Cedar Grove, or head south towards New York City and there are even more places to visit. Get the complete list here.

Discover something new or go to one of your favorite places and save some money.
