Traffic, Delays Expected as Hudson Valley Bridges Get Replaced

Two bridges in the Hudson Valley are going to be replaced, leading to road closures for the rest of the year.

On Monday, the Dutchess County Department of Public Works announced work on bridges U-27 and U-28 on Bruzgul Road (CR-21) in the Town of Union Vale is expected to begin next week.

The bridges, located over the Fishkill Creek on Bruzgul Road near the intersection with Clove Valley Road, will be replaced due to structural deterioration to ensure the safety of motorists, officials say.

“We are committed to building for our future and continue to invest wisely in our county’s bridge and highway infrastructure," Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro said. "These bridge projects on Bruzgul Road will ensure the long-term safety and viability of this roadway. Our highway and bridge projects are a critical part of our capital project investments, as well-maintained roads and bridges enhance the quality of life for our residents and help support our local economy.”

Bruzgul Road averages approximately 1,872 vehicles per day, according to the Dutchess County Department of Public Works.

Work will including, demolition of the current bridges and building new, wider bridges and widening the road in between to accommodate the addition of shoulders and improve the safety of the roadway, officials say.

Starting around May 20, Bruzgul Road will be closed about three-tenths of a mile west of the Clove Valley Road intersection, with a posted detour directing traffic along Shaughnessy Road and Clove Valley Road.

The new bridges should be complete by December. The project is expected to cost $2.5 million, which includes construction and inspection services, officials say.
