A big reason that New Yorkers are paying more is because NY has about 7 different state taxes, that add up to about .45 cents per gallon.

As of Wednesday, the average price per gallon in NewYork state was $2.70, when the national average is $2.19 per gallon. The only states that have higher prices are Alaska and Hawaii.

We pay about .64 cents per gallon in taxes, where the national average is 49.28 cents, according to the National Petroleum Institute.

According to AAA, and reported by The Poughkeepsie Journal, here is a breakdown of all the different gas taxes for New York State:

Meanwhile, the average price per gallon in New Jersey is $2.19, and $2.57 in Pennsylvania

Pretty sad that we have to cross a state border to get cheaper gas.
