Netflix has admitted to lowering the quality of video for customers watching on wireless networks such as AT&T, and Verizon Communications for more than five years.

Netflix also said that they do not lower the quality of videos for T-Mobile and Sprint customers because they had more "consumer friendly policies", as reported by NBC.

Netflix posted a blog regarding this situation, after many requests for comment. In the blog, Netflix said they had limited the video quality for mobile users globally, to protect consumers from exceeding data caps.

Netflix plans to introduce a data saver feature for mobile apps, which will give users more control over their data usage while streaming on mobile networks. The feature is expected to be available in May.
