Happy Birthday today (Sept. 14) to Ed King. The former Lynyrd Skynrd guitarist is 66. King joined Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1972 and played on the band's first three albums: Pronounced Leh-Nerd Skin-Nerd, Second Helping, and Nuthin' Fancy. He along with Gary Rossington and Allen Collins helped create the triple-guitar attack that became a signature sound for the band.

King left the band in 1975 and would eventually reunite with the band in 1987. He was forced to once again leave the band due to congestive heart failure in 1996.

King and Lynyrd Skynyrd were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006.
