Ever wonder how tree sap becomes the delicious maple syrup on your breakfast table? The Dutchess County Parks Division will host a free event at Bowdoin Park in Wappingers Falls on Saturday, March 5 to walk you through each step of the syrup-making process.

The Maple Open House will be held from 10AM to 2PM, with demonstrations held throughout the day. Attendees will learn the different aspects of syrup-making including tapping trees, collecting sap and boiling the sap down. Native American techniques for making syrup will also be explored.

If you can't make the Maple Open House at Bowdoin Park on March 5 but are interested in learning about how syrup is made, you're in luck.

The mild winter has been a boon for maple syrup producers, many of whom call New York home.

The New York State Maple Producers Association will hold Maple Weekend on Saturday, March 19 to Sunday, March 20 and Saturday, April 2 and Sunday, April 3. Participating maple syrup producers will hold special events, tours and demonstrations during Maple Weekend.
