A local Judge here in the Hudson Valley was bestowed with the tremendous honor of being named the "Magistrate of the Year". Essentially what this means is this judge for one year is the judge of all judges and can swing his gavel like how Aaron Judge swings a baseball bat.

A Distinguished Record

Recently the New York State Magistrates Association awarded Judge Jonah Triebwasser of Red Hook, with the award for Magistrate of the Year in 2022. there were numerous reasons for why Judge Triebwasser was selected for this honor (pun intended). Judge Triebwasser was credited as being an instrumental contributor towards making sure the association and the court system itself ran as flawlessly as possible.

A Distinguished Career

Judge Triebwasser has achieved many accomplishments. For starters, he graduated with his Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in 1972. From there he would move to New York Law School, where he graduated from in 1979.

Judge Triebwasser has continued a career in the academic setting. He is a faculty member for the National Judicial College in Nevada. In addition he has also written multiple books, centered on criminal law as well as a book on traffic, vehicle and penal law.

Proper context is needed to understand why this as big of a deal as it is. The  New York State Magistrates Association is massive in size. In New York State alone, it's an organization comprised of nearly 3000 sitting and even retired town and village justices members. Furthermore, in New York State, there are roughly 1300 active courts with positions occupied by plenty of men and women alike. So out of all of those courts, out of all of those sitting justices, Judge Triebwasser at least for this year was the top judge.
