Road Closure in the Hudson Valley Creates a Big Detour

It is called the Goat Trail and for good reason. It is the winding two-lane road that leads from the Bear Mountain Bridge on the East Side and heads south down to Peekskill, New York. Lately, it has been a bit of a traffic nightmare and this week it promised to get a bit worse.

Many parts of the Hudson Valley have traffic issues. People in Kingston and Port Ewen are still trying to get answers on when the Wurts Street Bridge will open up after renovations. The Goat Trail which is extremely well-traveled has been one of the most popular road topics on social media ever since the floods last July.

New York State Route 6/202 Closed at Bear Mountain Bridge

Unfortunately for people who use this road to commute let's just say the trips over the last few months have not been fun. Just last week it was closed for most of the day due to a truck losing its load. Accidents aren't the problem.

The real issue is a much need road repair which has been underway for a while. And now there is another closure this week.

The New York State Bridge Authority shared that the Bear Mountain Bridge will remain open during a scheduled closure of the Goat Trail. The NYS DOT issued an alert that The Goat Trail which is New York State Route 6 / 202 will be closed in both directions from 8 PM to 5 AM through May 8th, 2024.

Bear Mountain Bridge Remains Open While Route 6/ 303 is Closed

There could be more or less closures of the route depending on the weather. They are asking people to plan to go around and use Route 9, Route 403, and Route 9D.

This route will result in drivers needing to leave a lot more time to travel.
