A new bar will soon call Kingston, New York home.

For many years the Anchor Bar located at 744 Broadway in Kingston was extremely popular with area residents and when previous owners announced they were putting for sale signs on the bar many wondered what the future would look like at one of Kingston's favorite places.

In 2022 Anchor owners shared that they were selling the building with Anchor Vice President Brandy Walters posting on Facebook "Unfortunately, we need to close this door in order to open a new one. This has truly been one of the hardest decisions of my life...I love my staff, I love this community, I love The Anchor, and I even love this building!"

In October of 2023, owners shared that the building had been sold saying,

"Welp! It is officially over... Thank you for all the wonderful years. We started 12 years ago, Downtown as the Rondout Music Lounge, and grew to The Anchor in Midtown with the love and support of staff and community. I hope you all feel the love and gratitude!"

The post ended with the previous owner saying that the new owners "are great" and were "super excited to see what they do with the space", as were many fans of the Anchor. It appears that the new owners are ready to reveal their new plans and open in time for Memorial Day weekend according to the Daily Freeman. Owners Rebecca Kush, and Tiffany Themens are set to open Nightswim Kingston on Friday, May 24th at 7 p.m. and will offer a unique bar experience.

Nightswim Kingston

Nightswim might not sound like a bar name but Kush told the Freeman that the name has everything to do with a relaxed friendly vibe, "A night swim is a fun thing to do with your friends to just go off and take a dip." She also added, "We wanted to give an ode to the water theme of The Anchor but make it our own." Nightswim won't be the new owner's first bar as they've owned a bar in Brooklyn called Crystal Lake since 2018.

Drinks & More

Many remember The Anchor for amazing burgers and live music and fans are wondering if the same be true at Nightswim. Kush said that they expect to focus more on twists on old-time favorite cocktails like negronis, gimlets, and gin and tonics, as well as beer, wine, and several non-alcoholic options. As far as food goes Nightswin will offer food options at a later date with Kush telling the Freeman that they are looking at some "exciting options."
