Would you shop at Costco if they opened a store in the Hudson Valley?

If you've lived in the Hudson Valley long enough, you know that a few times a year we hear that a new store or fast-food place might be opening in the area. The list of rumored places is a long one and usually includes places like White Castle, Chick-fil-A, Trader Joe's, and Buc-ee's, just to name a few. For as long as I can remember, folks have wanted a Trader Joe's closer to parts of the Hudson Valley. Another wish-list store for many is Costco.

Costco in the Hudson Valley, NY?

Honestly, I have a confession to make that might surprise some people.

I have never shopped at Costco.

Not once.

I know, I know. There are apparently people who absolutely swear by Costco and will tell you that shopping anywhere else is basically throwing money away. I've heard the stories about the massive packages, the cheap gas, the food court, the samples and all of the other things that supposedly make Costco one of the greatest places on Earth.

It might be because the closest one to where I live is way too far away, but I know that anyone who shops there talks about their Costco memberships like they're members of some exclusive club that I haven't been invited to.

Why Does the Hudson Valley Want a Costco So Bad?

For years, I've been perfectly comfortable doing my regular grocery shopping at the places I normally shop. If I need something, I go get it. If something is on sale, great. If I need a giant 47-pack of something, well... I guess I haven't needed it yet.

And that brings me to my biggest question about Costco.

Is it actually cheaper?

I've also heard that Costco has some surprisingly good deals on everything from groceries to electronics to tires and even vacations, so I'm curious. For those of you who have shopped at Costco, convince me.

What makes Costco better than Walmart, Target, BJ's, Sam's Club, or your regular grocery store? Is there something that makes your Costco membership completely worth it? And more importantly, what am I missing out on by never shopping there?

Convince me why I should become a Costco shopper. Send me your thoughts at CJ@Hudsonvalleycountry.com. I may use your suggestions for a future article.
