April Heatwave Brings Record Breaking Temps to Poughkeepsie, NY

A summer scortcher in early spring?!

Hudson Valley residents were hit with an early spring heatwave this week with temperatures crawling up to the 90s in parts of the region. These warm weather conditions certainly left their mark.

Unfortuantely, due to the dry conditions and wind, there were a handful of wild brush fires across the area. The DEC shared last week that Putnam and Columbia County Forest Rangers and Firefighters battled smaller blazes while officials in Blooming Grove worked tirelessly to put out flames that spread up a mountain.

Red Flag and Fire Watch Warnings were issued all over New York State throughout the week.

Heatwave Brings Record-Breaking Temps to Poughkeepsie, New York

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, the heatwave we experience this week was a record-breaker. On Thursday, April 13th the National Weather Service tweeted:

With a current temperature of 88F, Poughkeepsie has tied the record for today set back in 1945. A new record will likely be set with another hour or two of additional warming

And they were right! Poughkeepsie clocked in at 90F on April 14th. They predict that Friday's temperature will also break a record. However, it looks like we'll be back to normal April weather next week.

Showers and temperatures in the 60s and 70s are set to return according to the National Weather Service.
