Ulster County SPCA Announces 'Empty Shelves'

On Saturday, March 21st, the Ulster County SPCA in Kingston took to social media to ask for assistance:

URGENT: Our Shelves are Empty!

We’ve officially hit a crisis point at the Ulster County SPCA. As of this morning, our very last bags of dry dog food have been used. #donations have been slower than usual lately, and with so many #hungrymouths to feed, we are reaching out to our amazing #community for a #helpinghand

They went on to explain that this week alone, nine dogs entered the shelter following humane law cases, lost dogs and owner surrenders, pushing them to 200% capacity for dogs alone. In their call for donations, the UCSPCA provided a list of preferred dog food brands, drop off information, and of course a big thank you for always supporting their animals.

Fast forward a day and BOY did the Hudson Valley ever understand the assignment.

UPDATE: Our shelves are more than full and we're now able to help other shelters as well to make sure our entire area has #fullbowls for their #dogs! #noemptybowls

In their follow up post, the team at the Ulster County SPCA panned the lot outside the shelter to show just how much the community answered their call, with a stream of cars coming in with food donations, sharing how deliveries have continued to come in, cash donations from individuals, and even local businesses and car dealerships working together to ensure the animals have what they need.

Check out Gina from the Ulster County SPCA here as she shares just how thankful the staff is for the generosity of the community.
