As an animal lover, and classified cat-lady (yes, more than just self-proclaimed), the whole idea of cat cafes here in the Hudson Valley has been a huge win in my book. When Beans Cat Cafe' expanded beyond Beacon into New Paltz, I was sure it would be well received by the community.

Well, since opening in July, more than 40 cats have been adopted into local homes from the Beans 'Mew Paltz' location, and the Beacon location recently hit, and is now well beyond the 500 adoption mark.

'Mew Paltz' Beans Cat Cafe Offers Late Night Study Hours With Cats

I'm not sure where this was when I was a college student, but imagine settling in to prepare for final exams or work on an end of semester project surrounded by adorable kittens - that's what's happening in New Paltz.

Idea Behind Late Night Study Hours at Beans Cat Cafe, New Paltz

In speaking with Jessica, one of the owners of Beans Cat Cafe, it was shared that the idea came from one of the main team members at the 'Mew Paltz' location, Alyssa Kirchner. In addition to being their social media manager, cat caretaker, and barista, she's also a Public Relations student at SUNY New Paltz. As an assignment for one of her classes, Alyssa and some fellow students brainstormed the idea, and she's been taking the lead in helping to organize the event.

She's been a large proponent in helping us organize this event, as well as our pop up earlier this month with the mental health advocacy group OASAS and our ongoing artist highlights series we have been doing in store. The new location is very good for hosting events outside of what we normally are able to do.

With regard to the event, Alyssa shared the following:

The idea of late night study hours came to be because we wanted to find a way to create connection between the campus community and Beans Cat Cafe that connects both parties in a meaningful way.
