Former Guard Implicated in NY Prison Break Pleads Guilty
A former guard, Gene Palmer has admitted he unintentionally helped two prisoners escape, by smuggling in tools.
Palmer plead guilty Monday, to a felony count of smuggling pliers and a screwdriver, two misdemeanor counts regarding prison contraband, and official misconduct.
The judge sentenced Palmer to six months in jail, and roughly $5,000 in fines and penalties. Palmer also resigned from his $74,644 a year job, as reported by CBS 6.
Richard Matt, and David Sweat were the two prisoners who escaped from Clinton Correction Facility and led authorities on a manhunt. Sweat was wounded and caught, while Matt was shot and killed.
Palmer admitted to providing them with tools and access to a catwalk electrical box.
