Three were arrested following a home invasion where two victims were beaten while sleeping.

Just before midnight on Monday, officers were sent to a possible home invasion on Middle Road in the Town of Greenport.

Police were told that three men entered the home, turned off the power, and assaulted two victims, who were asleep when the men entered the home. The trio fled on foot after the assault.

Deputies from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police soon found three men hiding nearby. All three told authorities of their involvement in the home invasion, officials say.

Derek Peeters, 23, of Philmont, 21-year-old John Day of Greenport and an 18-year-old man from Chatham were call charged with burglary, a class C violent felony, and two counts of assault, a misdemeanor.

All three were arraigned in Greenport Town Court and remanded to the Columbia County Jail with no bail. They are due to return to Greenport Town Court at a later date.

One man was taken to a local hospital, treated for a slash to his arm and released. A woman was treated by Greenport Rescue Squad on the scene. She declined transport to the hospital, police say.
