Today (Sept. 15) we remember Johnny Ramone of The Ramones who we lost on this day back in 2004. He was 55.

Johnny Ramone was guitarist and a founding member of The Ramones. He remained a member of the band throughout their career and in 2003, was honored in Time magazine as one of the ’10 Greatest Electric Guitar Players’. He also ranked number 16 on Rolling Stone’s list of the ‘100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time’. Johnny was known for his fast, high energy guitar style of playing. He died after a battle with prostate cancer on Sept. 15, 2004.

The Ramones formed in 1974, out of Forrest Hills, Queens in New York City and were a major influence on the punk 70’s punk movement in the U.S. and U.K. The band toured virtually nonstop for 22 years, performing 2,263 concerts. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002. Check out the official Ramones website here.
