After the well above average temperatures and summer-like humidity, it may be hard to believe that we're actually talking about frost in the forecast this weekend. It's especially a bit crazy considering we've got the remnants of major hurricane dropping heavy amounts of rain all across the area Thursday. But meteorologists are saying it's going to get a lot colder.

While, it's not definite (when is the weather ever set in stone?), the region is set to experience a sharp cool off by the end of the week. After highs near 80 the past few days, the temperature is expected to dip into the lower 40s by Friday night.

Saturday's highs are only expected to climb into the 50s. Saturday night, however, is expected to see temps plunging into the mid to upper 30s. This could mean a scattered light frost in some areas; especially the far northern parts of the listening area, as well as higher elevations.

Nothing really unusual though if you think about it. Usually, the area has had it's first frost by now. In fact, according to the Old Farmer's Almanac, Poughkeepsie has had it's first frost by October 4 on average.

Of course, you've always got to take long-range forecasts with a grain of salt. However, with the hot summer we've had, there might more than a few of you ready for colder temps.
