Ulster County Farm Triggers Nationwide Recall Over Listeria Concerns
A local farm is the source of a nationwide recall for potential listeria contamination.
The FDA has announced a voluntary recall of several organic and natural products processed at Hudson Valley Farm in Highland. The company, also known as Bedemco, triggered the recall after they issued a statement saying their natural and organic dates could potentially be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
The items were sold under the brand names Nature’s Promise, Woodstock, Market Basket, and Wholesome Pantry. Specific products, their lot numbers and sell-by dates have been listed on the FDA's website. The three items below are just a few of the items affected.
If you have any of the products you should immediately throw them away and return to the store for reimbursement. The FDA has posted a warning about the potential risks involved with this recall:
Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune symptoms. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
