Tops Supermarket has announced that will purchase five Hudson Valley Supermarkets from Stop & Shop and Hannaford. Here's what we know about the company.

Tops operates 164 full-service supermarkets in Western and Northeastern NY, Northern Pennsylvania, and Western Vermont. According to the company's website the chain employs more than 15,000 employees.

As we reported yesterday, Tops has announced their intention to purchase the Hannaford stores in LaGrangeville and Carmel along with Stop & Shop locations on Route 9 in Rhinebeck, Main Street in New Paltz and Route 9 in Wappingers Falls.

In addition to supermarkets, Tops operates 61 gas stations and has their own GasPoints program where loyal customers can earn savings on fuel. The supermarket chain also has 54 pharmacies located in various stores. There is no word on if current pharmacies at Stop & Shop and Hannaford locations involved in the sale will remain open or not.

Here's a look at one of the current Tops supermarkets that is operating in Albion, NY.
