After 20 years of competing for best web browser, Microsoft is close to launching an alternative to their once dominant Internet Explorer.

Microsoft has built a new web browser for the modern internet, and mobile devices to go along with the Windows 10 operating system, which is coming later this year.

Internet Explorer will still be available, but the new browser will get top billing. Microsoft is looking for a new name that doesn't use the word "Explorer". The new browser is codenamed Project Spartan, as reported by CBS 6.

Over the years we have seen many web browsers come along to compete with Internet Explorer. To name a few: Apple's Safari, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firebox.

Currently Google Chrome is the most used web browser, but many businesses rely on web-based software that was built to work with Explorer. That being said, Microsoft will likely support both browsers for years down the road.
