Poughkeepsie Police Warn Residents of Rental Scam

Poughkeepsie - Residents are being warned by police about a rental scam going on in the city.

People, who are unknown at this time placed an ad on Craigslist stating that a vacant house was available to rent, according to police

The house is in fact not for rent, and is for sale.

Whoever posted the ad was asking for money to be wired to an out-of-state address, in return for the key to the property.

Police are warning prospective tenants to not rent the property without meeting with the landlord in person.
