Police: Hudson Valley Mother Overdoses While Taking Care of Child
A woman is accused of overdosing on heroin while she was taking care of her young child.
On Monday around 5:30 p.m., Saugerties police responded to the Blue Mountain Campground for a reported drug overdose.
Arriving officers found paramedics administering Narcan to 31-year-old Misty L. Riely. Narcan is a drug which is known to reverse the effects from a heroin overdose
Officers believe Reilly overdosed on heroin. When she overdosed, Reilly was taking care of her 8-year-old son. Reilly was the only adult at the home when she overdosed, police say.
She was taken to Kingston Hospital for additional treatment. On Tuesday, she was charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
At the time of the overdose, police couldn’t find a relative. The child was then turned over to the Ulster County Department of Social Services. An order of protection was issued on behalf of the child.
