The MTA is launching a multimedia ad campaign to help keep the public safe at Metro-North and LIRR railroad crossings.

This initiative comes just months after a train struck an SUV on the tracks in Valhalla. The crash was the deadliest in Metro-North history, killing the driver and five train passengers. There has also been some close calls at other crossings, as reported by lohud.

The MTA will work with Operation Lifesaver  to spread the message at the movies, on TV, in newspapers, online and on outdoor signs starting this week. The MTA also has a new section on their website.

The ads feature tag lines including "Isn't Your Life Worth the Wait?" and "Wait for the Gate."
