David Vega-Soto, 38, formerly of Kingston, was arrested on June 30 of this year following a complaint and subsequent investigation by the Ulster County Family and Child Advocacy Center. He was charged with one count of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree.

Ulster County District Attorney's Office Special Victims Bureau Chief Kathleen Van Loan prosecuted the defendant who entered a guilty plea on Oct. 12. The defendant, who used to reside at 82 Henry Street in Kingston admitted to subjecting another person to sexual contact who was less than 11 years old on June 25 as part of the plea.

At sentencing, Ulster County Court Judge Donald Williams handed out the maximum sentence to the sex offender: 7 to 10 years in state prison followed by 10 years of post-release supervision. The Class "D" Violent Felony plea also requires Vega-Soto to register with the NYS Sexual Offender Registry for a minimum of 20 years.

The defendant is a citizen of Mexico and may face additional proceedings with the US Department of Homeland Security, Immigration, and Customs Enforcement.
