Did you notice anything strange during the eclipse on Monday across the Hudson Valley?

NASA Collecting Animal Behavior Data During Eclipse

We're all still reeling in the excitement that was the 2024 Solar Eclipse. But before we forget everything that happened, while scrolling on social media I saw that a lab within NASA was collecting information regarding animals and insects during the eclipse.

It's called Eclipse Soundscapes and its mission is "Providing accessible, eclipse-related citizen science activities with NASA experts." The website explains further:

NASA subject matter experts (SMEs) will collect audio recordings from eclipses and analyze acoustic data to determine how disruptions in light and circadian rhythms may affect ecosystems.

It looks like they've been doing this since 1932! If you recorded any unusual animal behavior on April 8th, 2024 you can share is with Arisa Lab LLC on  Facebook: @ArisaLabLLC X: @Arisa_Lab and Instagram: @ArisaLabLLC.

You can also learn more about the program on NASAs official website.

Were Your Hudson Valley Animals Acting Strange During the Eclipse?

The eclipse has come and gone, but we must ask, did you notice your pets and animals acting strangely? Were the bugs and the birds quiet when the eclipse hit partial totality around 3:26 pm in the Hudson Valley?

We asked the same question on The Wakin' Up with CJ and Jess Show and Nancy in Poughkeepsie texted in the following:

There was a change in my goats behavior during the partial eclipse. The birds were still singing and the geese honking. The thing I noticed was it got chilly and had to put on my sweatshirt and the mosquitoes came out!

Cait in Catskill added, "The mosquitoes were crazy during the eclipse in Catskill NY."

I noticed 4 or 5 bees fighting each other around 2:50 pm just before the peek of totality in Beacon, NY. Could it be that I have a bee issue? Maybe, but this was still strange behavior:

We'd love to hear about the strange animal behavior you may have experienced on April 8th, 2024. Send us a text through the station app or send an email to: Jess@HudsonValleyCountry.com.

Photographers Across New York Capture Beautiful Eclipse Moments

While we here in the Hudson Valley weren't in the direct path of totality, our friends in Western New York and Central New York were a bit luckier. Take a look at some eclipse photos captured around Central New York below:

Before we got to the eclipse on April 8th, Hudson Valley residents experienced a 4.8 magnitude earthquake.  New York and earthquakes don't necessarily go hand in hand, but here we are:
