A hotel that's been in the works for many years could be inching closer and close to actually happening.

Last week we heard news that the Town Board in the Town of Ulster was hosting a public forum to discuss plans to possibly bring a Hilton owned hotel to a popular plaza near Kingston, New York. The site plans, which were submitted and approved 4+ years ago, would allow for Ulster Hospitality LLC to begin construction of a 100 room, four story hotel in the Ulster Commons plaza at 1581 Ulster Ave, Lake Katrine, NY.

5th Time a Charm for Ulster Hotel?

The site plans that were submitted in 2019 cleared the way for Ulster Hospitality to begin construction but because of the pandemic it was delayed and delayed again and again. Every year Ulster reapproved plans and after 4 times the Towns is hopeful that the fifth tome will be the charm. The last approval happened earlier this year and stated that construction needed to begin no later that September 19th, but that date came and went so the Town Board announced a meeting to discuss its future.

Hotel Project Manger Provides Town of Ulster an Update

The meeting took place on Thursday November 2nd and did provide a bit more information on the hotels future for area residents according to the Daily Freeman. Hotel project spokesperson Kyle Ahearn announced that the hospitality group is "still committed to the project but they've had some obstacles to overcome." Ahearn explained

"They are back now for reapproval with the hopes that with some of the changes inside the building, they can get their finances in line and get the project started and completed."

New Site Plans

Town officials said the most recent plans that have been submitted are very similar to previous plans with slight changes to the interior of the building. Ahearn told the Freeman after the meeting, "They'll be updating some of the interior finishes to match the newest generation of the hotel design and they're also trying to balance construction cost with financing and construction loans."

The meeting didn't provide any updates as far as timeline for construction but if and when that becomes available we will update this article.
