Let’s Revisit A Special 1915 Adirondack Style Resort New York

Long before there was the long list of Resorts and Spas in the Hudson Valley there was the Bear Mountain Inn. Just south of West Point tucked against Hessian Lake in one of the Hudson Valley's most picturesque areas it is a well-known destination.

This rustic but elegant Adirondack-style resort is located in Bear Mountain State Park. When it opened in 1915 it was actually declared by The American Architect to be one of the finest examples of that style in America.

So why is it that few of us who call the Hudson Valley home have actually spent the night at the Bear Mountain Inn? My last stay dates back to 1986. I am going to venture a guess that most of you reading this article not only haven't stayed at the Inn but you may not have even paid a visit.

Let me try to entice you to think about it. Whether you plan a weekend stay or just dinner. Growing up in Orange County, New York my friends and I always went to the Inn for their entertainment. Back in the day, they had an amazing disco but that long-faded.

Reasons to revisit the Bear Mountain Inn today include their Ice Rink, their Carousel, and their hospitality. 1915 Bar & Restaurant offers dinner Wednesday through Sunday and they serve brunch. Among all the amazing features is a fireplace big enough for the Lodge at Yellowstone.

Other resorts in the Hudson Valley offer interesting amenities including the Kaleidoscope at the Emerson Resort & Spa and the iconic tower at Mohonk Mountain House. However, the Bear Mountain Inn is the one that has an ice rink and a fun-sized carousel.
