Travel is always a hassle during the holiday season. Unfortunately, it seems like it will be extra-bad for New York State residents.

In a nationwide survey of major airports, researchers took a look at delayed flights, "chronically late" flights, and percentage of flights not arriving on time. Unfortunately, three of the worst six airports in the country are in the New York area.

LaGuardia airport, while famous for several unsavory characteristics, is still recognized as "the best of the worst" for delays of New York's larger airports. While they have many chronically delayed flights, the reports states that many can be contributed to the construction that has been ongoing since 2017.

Newark International Airport is close enough to New York State to be automatically included as an option in any travel plans. Recognized in this study as the third-worst airport in the country for chronic delays, the hold ups are blamed on both construction and understaffing.

John F. Kennedy International Airport has been named not only the worst airport for delays in New York State, but in the entire country. According to the study, 62% of flights out of JFK are delayed.

Multiple factors, including staffing shortages, inefficient design, and isolated terminals are all suspected causes for the continued delays. JFK is also the busiest airport in New York City, which contributes to terminal congestion and long lines.

The study named Chicago Midway International Airport, Denver International Airport, and Orlando International Airport as the other three airports on their "worst six" list for delays.
