The Hudson Valley Resort And Spa in Kerhonkson has been sold to a Chinese aviation company for $13.8 million.

The HNA group plans to spend millions of dollars to transform the Ulster County destination into a first class resort.  The Times Herald Record reports, the deal with the Chinese aviation Company closed on Friday.

The Hudson Valley Resort was built in the late 1950s. It was once called the Granit Resort. According to the company’s website, the Resort is “nestled in heart of the Shawangunk Mountains and surrounded by gorgeous Catskill views.”  It offers 332 guestrooms and suites, a challenging 18 hole championship golf course, and a full European health spa.

The resort went through a large renovation in 1997-98. In 2006, it was purchased by Eliot Spitzer (not the former New York Governor) for $18.5 million.

During the transition in ownership and renovations, the resort and hotel will stay open. But it is expected Spitzer will not remain on board.
