A Hudson Valley man who was found guilty of welfare fraud was sentenced in Ulster County Court.

44-year-old Tony Wallace, of Wallkill, was sentenced to 4 months in jail and 5 years’ probation plus restitution in connection with welfare fraud. In addition, Wallace has been disqualified from receiving social services benefits for 1 year.

Wallace was convicted of a class D felony of 3rd- degree welfare fraud. According to the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office, over a period of almost two years, Wallace illegally obtained $60,647 worth of benefits from the Ulster County Department of Social Services by failing to report income that he earned.

Wallace’s thefts were discovered by the Special Investigations Unit in the Ulster County Department of Social Services. The matter was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Jessica Mila Schutzman.
